LIBERTY STATEMENTS BY THE FOUNDING FATHERS:

"Ben Franklin's Words/Las Palabras de Benjamin Franklin:
"Aquellos que puedan ceder libertad esencial para obtener un poco de seguridad temporera,
no se merecen ni libertad ni seguridad"
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a
little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Historical Review of Pennsylvania
This sentence was much used in the Revolutionary period. It occurs even so early as November,
1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto
of Franklin’s “Historical Review,” 1759, appearing also in the body of the work.—Frothingham:
Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. .

Thomas Jefferson: "A free people [claim] their rights as derived from the
laws of nature,
and not as the gift of their chief magistrate."

George Washington upon leaving the White House: "Over grown
military establishments are under any form of government inauspicious to liberty, and are to be
regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty ... Government is not reason. It is not
eloquence. It is a force, like fire: a dangerous servant and a terrible master." Government is
a terrible Master-WorldNetDaily News-Oct, 19, 2001.

"In times like these, there is likely to be a clamor to crack down on the freedoms Americans
historically have enjoyed.
Chaos always gives government an opportunity to expand,
inevitably, at the expense of freedom.  In such times, we would do well to heed the words
of Ben Franklin:
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary
safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
And, we must know, we will get neither

Ken Connor, President-Family Research Council-Sept. 13, 2001.

"If we were going to be absolutely safe," Rep. Frank D. Lucas, Oklahoma Republican,
"we'd have to restrict people's freedoms to the point that it wouldn't be America anymore."
The Washington Times/ Sept. 19, 2001.

"In announcing the recommendations of a congressionally chartered anti-terrorism commission
Monday, Virginia Gov. James S. Gilmore III, stressed "the paramount importance of preserving
our citizens' constitutional rights and civil liberties."
"We can meet this terrorist threat without
trampling the Constitution,
here or at home,"

Federal Authorities arrest terrorist planning to poison water supplies in US

WASHINGTON — Federal officials have arrested two Al Qaeda terror suspects
in the U.S. with documents in their possession about how to poison the country's
water supplies, Fox News has learned. The first case involves James Ujaama,
36, who surrendered to the FBI last week in Denver. Sources say they found
documents about water poisoning among several other terrorism-related documents
in his Denver residence...." Fox News-July 30, 2002.

Operation Tips

"Operation TIPS, administered by the U.S. Department of Justice and developed in partnership
with several other federal agencies, is one of the five component programs of the Citizen Corps.
Operation TIPS will be a national system for reporting suspicious, and potentially terrorist-related
activity. The program will involve the millions of American workers who, in the daily course of their
work, are in a unique position to see potentially unusual or suspicious activity in public places.
The Department of Justice is discussing participation with several industry groups whose workers
are ideally suited to help in the anti-terrorism effort because their routines allow them to recognize
unusual events and have expressed a desire for a mechanism to report these events to authorities.
These workers will use their common sense and knowledge of their work...."

US planning to recruit one in 24 Americans as citizen spies

"The Bush Administration aims to recruit millions of United States citizens as domestic
informants in a program likely to alarm civil liberties groups.
The Terrorism Information
and Prevention System, or TIPS, means the US will have a higher percentage of citizen
informants than the former East Germany through the infamous Stasi secret police.
The
program would use a minimum of 4 per cent of Americans to report "suspicious activity".

Civil liberties groups have already warned that, with the passage earlier this year of the
Patriot Act, there is potential for abusive, large-scale investigations of US citizens...."

Genera Alarma aclamado tribunal militar secreto

Unidos….

BUSH PUTS SHADOW GOVERNMENT IN FRAMEWORK OF "CONTINUITY OF GOVERNMENT"

"In response to a question based on newspaper stories March 1 about "a shadow government"
having been setup in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks, Bush said, "we take the
continuity-of-government issue very seriously, because our nation was under attack. And I
still take the threats that we receive from al Qaeda killers and terrorists very seriously. I have
an obligation as the President, and my administration has an obligation to the American people
to provide -- put measures in place that, should somebody be successful in attacking
Washington, D.C., there's an ongoing government. That's one reason why the Vice President
was going to undisclosed locations. This is serious business, and we take it seriously...."
White House Report, March 1, 2002: Terrorism, Shadow Government, Yemen

Bush defends shadow government

President George W Bush has acknowledged taking measures to ensure continuity of government
in the event of another large-scale terrorist attack on the United States. "This is serious business,
"he said of the plan during a trip to Iowa, following reports on Friday that he had set up an emergency
parallel administration.....
plan for a shadow government has been implemented because of heightened
fears that Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network might obtain a portable nuclear weapon
. An unnamed
senior official told Associated Press news agency that, while US intelligence had no specific knowledge
of such a weapon, the risk was great enough to warrant activation of the plan. Other officials said the
back-up government consisted of anything from 70 to 150 people at two principal locations on the
East Coast...."

Who gave your rights away?

"Many conservatives, liberals and libertarians are protesting the numerous
invasions of your liberty that Congress and the Bush administration have imposed
during the past two months.
But without realizing it, many of the protestors brought
these invasions on themselves....This is America? I do share their concerns, however.
First, Congress rammed through an "anti-terrorism" bill that violates the civil liberties
of all Americans, not just terrorists.

Assault on Liberty
Abandoning the Constitution to Military Tribunals

".... George W. Bush made it clear that he was dangerously
ignorant of the Constitution—not only denying due process to the record number of people he
executed but also refusing effective counsel to indigent inmates of Texas prisons.
But as president, Bush, terrorized by the terrorists, is abandoning more and more of the
fundamental rights and liberties that he—and his unquestioning subordinates—assured
us they were fighting to preserve..."

Seizing Dictatorial Power

WASHINGTON -- Misadvised by a frustrated and panic-stricken attorney general, a
president of the United States has just assumed what amounts to dictatorial power
to jail or execute aliens. Intimidated by terrorists and inflamed by a passion for rough justice,
we are letting George W. Bush get away with the replacement of the American rule of law with
military kangaroo courts.
In his infamous emergency order, Bush admits to dismissing
"the principles of law and the rules of evidence" that undergird America's system of justice.
He seizes the power to circumvent the courts and set up his own drumhead tribunals —
panels of officers who will sit in judgment of non-citizens who the president need only
claim "reason to believe" are members of terrorist organizations...."
The New York Time,

Bush Military Tribunal

[WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers,
D-Mich., said Wednesday a decision by President George W. Bush that terrorist suspects
might face a military tribunal adds to questions about civil liberties.
In a Nov. 14 letter to
Committee Chairman Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., Conyers
called for hearings on civil liberties, including an administration plan to monitor
some defendants' communication with their lawyers,
and the status of suspects detained
in the government's investigations of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Conyers said Bush's
Tuesday decision to establish military tribunals run by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld
only adds to his concern...."

He who decides the meaning of the word is a master (Tom Ridge's comments)

When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, “it means just what I
choose it to mean – neither more nor less.” “The question is,” said Alice, “whether
you can make words mean different things.” “The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty,
“which is to be master – that’s all.”.... Do we know what this thing called “terrorism” is,
this thing that all the police and military might of the United States is attacking? You might
have thought so, but in steps Tom Ridge, the Director of the new Office of Homeland Security.
The anti-terrorism czar.
Not long ago, he said something truly frightening. Referring to
Americans who “lash out” at people who dress differently or practice a different religion,
he said “we have a word for that: terrorism.....” Press Office- Free Congress Foundation

New World Order doublespeak redefines terrorism - a subtle attack on freedom of speech

The US government launched a new White House Office to deal with internal security called
the "Office of Homeland Security". Tom Ridge, the Gov. of Pennsylvania was appointed as
Director of the that office. On Monday Oct. the 8th, 2001., Gov. Ridge's farewell address to
the State Legislature said: "To those Americans who would lash out at your fellow citizens,
simply because they worship differently, or dress differently, or look differently than you,
there is one word for such behavior: terrorism."
S
o we have now a new definition of
terrorism. This sounds very much like the language used in Hate legislation where the
concept of hate seems to have been re-defined in many instances. This looks like a
subtle attack on the freedom of speech. Time will tell.......

Model health law empowers states-Drugs, quarantine could be forced

By Bloomberg News, 10/31/2001

WASHINGTON - States would be able to force patients to take medication under model
legislation outlining when and how governors can use emergency powers to address
public health crises such as recent anthrax attacks.
The model law, commissioned by the
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, also would give people the right to
appeal states' decisions to quarantine or isolate them. Individuals with contagious diseases,
such as smallpox, wouldn't be able to appeal orders for treatment or vaccination under
the law...
Lawrence Gostin, chief author of the model law and a professor at Georgetown
University Law Center, said the academic panel that drafted the proposal tried to balance
the need to control disease with individuals' civil rights
- something he said isn't done
under many current state laws. ''We felt if we were too Draconian and didn't respect
people's rights, that meant the terrorists would win,'' Gostin said. Emergency powers
allow governors to suspend normal government temporarily,
letting states swiftly
address disease epidemics or natural disasters such as earthquakes...."

Secrecy on arrests...concern for civil liberties

Government is a Terrible Master
"Over grown military establishments are under any form of government inauspicious to liberty,
and are to be regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty ... Government is not reason. It is not
eloquence. It is a force, like fire: a dangerous servant and a terrible master." Government is
a terrible Master-WorldNetDaily News-Oct, 19, 2001.

The end of an unserious decade
The president has moved with great prudence in the Afghan war.
Let us go in, get them, get out and go home – and let the Arab and Islamic world work out its
own destiny. But of this we may be sure: History will hold the globalists and latter-day imperialists
of left and right accountable. Their epitaph is already written: "On the altar of global empire,
they sacrificed their country"
Patrick J. Buchanan-WorldNetDaily News-Oct. 19, 2001.

Is freedom the next casualty of Terrorism?

"Freedom itself was attacked this morning," President Bush declared on September 11.
Many have echoed him in the weeks since then, arguing that the terrorists behind the attacks
despise our way of life, which they seek to disrupt by inciting fear.
Their success hinges not
only on how we respond as individuals--whether we go about our business undeterred--but
on how our government responds.
If it rushes to adopt authoritarian measures in the name of
fighting terrorism, "freedom itself" could be added to the list of casualties....
It seems doubtful
that every senator who voted for this expanded authority carefully weighed the loss of privacy
it would entail and decided the sacrifice was justified. Despite its reputation as a less deliberate
body, the House has proved more cautious about trading civil liberties for promises of greater
security.....
The most widely criticized element of the legislation would authorize indefinite
detention of noncitizens whom the attorney general deems "a threat to national security."
But
the bill also contains less obvious threats to civil liberties, including wiretap provisions similar
to those approved by the Senate.....In circumstances such as these, skeptics of state power
ike to haul out a famous remark by Benjamin Franklin: "They that can give up essential liberty
to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
When it comes to deciding
which measures will enhance safety and which aspects of liberty are "essential," of course,
there is room for debate. At least, there ought to be."

Lawmakers vow to protect liberties in USA

"Protecting the twin towers of personal liberties and domestic security is the most challenging
task the nation faces,
lawmakers and others across the ideological spectrum say  "It is key "
balancing act we have to engage in as a nation right now," said Rep. Bob Barr, Georgia
Republican. "It would be very easy to forget about personal liberties and worry only about
 the national security.
I don't want to do that. Rep. Brad Carson, Oklahoma Democrat, warned
against making the Constitution "the first casualty"
of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks ......"
The Washington Times/ Sept. 19, 2001.

Honoring Liberty

"Two days ago, my husband learned that he lost one of his U.S. Naval Academy classmates to
the terror that struck our country last week. Like so many others at the Pentagon, this fine Navy
officer died in defense of freedom.....From Jerry Falwell's well-publicized opinions about the
role immorality played in the big picture of this attack, to Bill Maher's off-the-cuff statements
about military actions, to Anthony LoBaido's column on his religious views, freedom-loving
Americans are actually labeling other freedom-loving Americans as "un-American" simply
because they disagree.

Do I think Dr. Falwell and Bill Maher and Anthony LoBaido were tasteless and insensitive
in their recent remarks? Absolutely!
But do I question their loyalty to our Constitution and
our country? Absolutely not!....
the notion of being able to speak one's religious and
political views, has been something worth sacrificing for.
Yet, some of us are beginning
to do what the terrorists could not do last week: intimidate others into silence.

Rebecca Hageling. WorldNetDaily News/Sept. 21, 2001.
